We’ve got a new theme for our next workshops! We’re going back to the 70’s with some colourful and striking set-ups in a really great new location in Northamptonshire.
The first run of this workshop will be on Saturday 14th of December 2019.
I’ll be showing you how to light and pose your models in a way that looks realistic and builds narrative into your images for that cinematic visual storytelling look!
We keep the group small as our aim is that you can walk away with the knowledge to recreate the set ups and be comfortable using your speedlights rather than this being just a "portfolio builder." Although you will of course get some lovely images as well!
We’ll be having two models for this, Jade Lyon, who many of you know, will be modelling as well as giving you tips on model direction and posing and as a talented photographer herself, she’s always on hand to help you with anything you need!
And introducing Bina! Who I’ve had the pleasure of working with recently, her striking look is so perfectly suited to the style of images we’re going for! She’s a wonderful model and very knowledgeable on 60’s/70’s music!
How It Works
11:00 - Introduction and Look 1 Photoshoot:
Boho style with Jade -
Learning how to light a scene in a way that looks natural and realistic. We’ll be using a mix of lighting to create the mood and style that we want to convey, the lighting is as much a story telling device as the props and styling.
1:00 - 1.30 - Lunch
1:30 - 3.30 - Look 2 Photoshoot
The second look that we’re going for we’ll be showing how to light more than one model as we’ll be photographing Jade and Bina in this setup, we’re going to create something that looks more like a still from a film. I’ll show you how lighting technique differs when working with multiple subjects in a larger scene.
3:30 - 5:00 - Look 3 Photoshoot
The last look that we’ll be going for will be something more filmic, we’ll be recreating the darkroom image below using props, lighting techniques and model direction, bringing all the elements together to create an image that is striking and unique.
What You Need
The basics of how to use your camera in manual mode. To know how to change your aperture, shutter speed and ISO. We keep groups small so people can learn at their own pace, or just shoot away!
Bring your own speedlights if you have them so you can be familiar with working with your own equipment. Alternatively if it's something you're looking to invest in you don't need bring your own, this is the opportunity to give it a go and get some tips on what gear to get.
Your camera, with batteries and memory cards.
We’ll have the rest!
