Our friends at Wild Arena invited us up with them on one of their excellent photography trips, they run loads all over the place, and this one was a week-long excursion into the Highlands of Scotland to photograph Wildlife. We, however, were there to try out some ideas we’ve been working on for some things we’re planning in the future. So we loaded far more clothes, props and winter gear into the car than anybody should really need and headed up!

Read MoreBuilding and Shooting with a DIY Rain Machine
I’ve written about this project in the past, as I originally made the rain machine and shot with it in 2012, however we’ve now done it in video form! Hopefully it shows a little more detail about the construction and how I shot with it. I made this just for fun really, it rains enough here in the UK that you really don’t need a rain maker, but this allowed me the control of putting studio lights outside without getting electrocuted!

I've finally had some time to edit the behind the scenes video from a shoot I did a while back, It was a bit of an off the cuff shoot as we had some time between travels while up in Northamptonshire. Having driven past a red telephone box a few times that still looked fairly original (many of them now have big fluorescent defibrillators in them in the villages), a plan started forming in my mind of an image that could like quite cool there.
Read MoreThe building of a custom workstation.
Drifting away a bit from photography, I believe it is a dream of many of us that spend a lot of time at the computer, particularly who work at home to have an amazing workstation that fits our needs perfectly. I find it hard to work at home as it is, all the distractions! So I built myself this beast!

I had the chance to spend some time at Wimbledon for a week or so with my job at Canon which as you can imagine I jumped at! We are there in a support capacity for the pro photographers, providing technical help and lending gear when needed along with our counterparts at Nikon. All part of the service you receive if you're part of the CPS/NPS schemes at big events.

Below is a walk through of how I created ONE image for my portfolio, I will add some of the other images, but I don't have them in my portfolio. This is because this was the start of a series of images and I had set out to come out with only one from each shoot.
The concept started after I saw Simeon Quarrie's work for a couple. He had stated in a BTS video that the rain machine they had ordered had not turned up, so they simply built their own instead. There was no more information on it, but it sounded so cool I had to try it for myself. I had no idea what I wanted to do with it, but it was a quiet summer!

Last week I had a shoot with Element 5 Systems, this is a company run by 3 guys, Ian, Ross and Nathan in small workshop not far out from Lewes. Set in a stunning part of the countryside they build the sort of speakers that you'd imagine batman having in his cave for those lonely bat raves where I imagine Alfred is the DJ.
Read MoreThe Detective - Behind the scenes of the set build and design.
I had this idea for the next scene of my series of film stills, The image I had in my head was one of a bleak concrete walled interrogation room with a detective talking to my recurring character. For whom I realise now I don't have a name, we'll go with schmuck, but he is played by my good friend Doug primarily because there are few other people in the world I could dream of asking to go through what he goes through for me to get a picture! While this shoot is fairly tame he has been stamped on in the rain by a woman in heels, mock executed in a river and frozen while assisting me!
Read MoreLying around in red. Fashion with Jade Lyon.
It was a rather dull and grey morning but we had some time before Jade went off to work so we decided to do a shoot, I rarely shoot in the house as, like many others, I take it for granted and don't think of it as much of an interesting location to shoot in. This with the less than appealing light through the window made it quite a challenge!

On what was another rather chilly day, Jade had the idea of going to try and find this empty church she had heard about. It was a sunny day so I happily agreed and she found put a casting out short notice in the morning. By the afternoon Shannon was with us and we were following some very vague directions passing enormous houses down narrow country lanes trying to find this place. By some chance we found it and I will definitely be returning there in the future for another photoshoot as it was brilliant!

Last week Jade and I took a a trip up to Northampton to visit her family before her birthday. Jade had a shoot with someone while we were up there, but we figured we'd have time to create some stuff of our own. I had taken my lights and camera bag and just happen to keep a smoke machine in the back of my car... who knows when you'll need one after all. Check out the video below for a look at the set-up.

October may have seen the end of the warm days, but it also held the first of my photography workshops. Some images from the A7Rii. Mix of images shot at Brighton Pride last night. I had a 35mm 2.8 and a 70-200mm f4 so its a bit of a mix.
It was getting dark so it was a bit of a sensitivity test and frankly it is bloody impressive.
I'll right up a full review this evening.
