This month we had the first of our Lighting Masterclass: Advanced Speedlight Workshops, Jade and I hosted the event at the fantastic Garden Bar in Hove. The staff there were very hospitable and the food was fantastic.
Video and images can be seen below:
We spend the day going through things like inverse square law and its affect on light on our models, lighting a male and female model, lighting 2 people in different parts of an image.
We went through building up each image and scene element by element so that it would be easy to replicate and apply the lighting techniques to other environments and scenarios.
I hope to have a brief tutorial on my retouching workflow up in on the blog another post soon, but to give you an idea, after a quick skin touch up I dodge and burn the image to bring out the highlights and deepen the shadows where I want and even out the skin tones. Then I use a combination of curves and colour balance adjustment layers to colour grade the images. The colour grading part of post production is something I am learning the most about at the moment. I think it has the greatest affect of the look of an image.
Thank you to Jade Lyon as always who finds these great locations and arranged to have Jonny Kaye come on board for this one.
And thanks to Jonny Kaye. It's great to have a good male model especially on a workshop as it's often something that people haven't shot much of.
If you think you might fancy coming along to one of our workshops, we have a bit of a selection available now with new dates to be announced in the coming week to cover the next few months. Have a look at our Workshops Page for more information.
